Rocky Balboa says:

This is a message for Nick Johnston. Nick, your a great player. I know you always say that your not particulalry interested in " gear", " amps", "pedals" etc… BUT!!! you must know, that these things have a direct effect on your sounds! Youre amp is THEE VOICE OF YOUR SOUND. I find it very difficult to believe your not aware of this. regardless, i want to share MIND BLOWING AMPS WITH YOU ( and everyone else who sees this message ) The amps are all made from amp maker, Bill Landry. ( landryamplification.com ) Check out his amps! they are seriously, unbelievable! all of his amps are crystal clear sounding, literally! every note and sound is upfront and center! the picking sensitivity, the sustain, the clairty, the harmonics, the tight, punchy, articulate dynamics of your playing, ALL there! PLEASE! as a musical virtuoso, you NEED TO HEAR THESE AMPS! ( and all the other virtuosos do too! ) check them out.. SERIOUSLY………

Rocky Balboa says:

The music is inside the musician. In order to express that music through any instrument? you have to build and have a relationship with that instrument. with much time sharing yourself with that instrument, you get to know that instrument very well, and that instrument gets to know you very well! and together, you will find ways to say whatever you want to say musically. to learn all of the pre designed music theory? is only actually going to confine you. everyone who learns all of this " theory"? get locked in a box. it appears to make sense, i know, i am a serious musician and particulalry, a guitarist. BUT THE TRUTH AND FACT IS ALL THE GREATEST MUSICIANS EVER, WHO TOOK THEIR INSTRUMENT TO ANOTHER LEVEL? THEY DID SO BY THEIR OWN PERCEPTIONS AND THE MUSIC WITHIN IN THEM, THROUGH THEIR INSTRUMENT! EVERYONE ELSE IS JUST USING THESE DESIGNS TO PLAY WITH OTHER MUSICANS. BUT THEY ARE NOT MAKING MUSIC THAT IS REALLY FREE! because of all the structure and guidlines within the music theory design.
BUT HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE PLAYING? OUR EARS TELL US! OUR HEARTS TELL US! OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR INSTRUMENT HELP US SAY WHATEVER IT IS WE WANT TO SAY! BUT WHAT ABOUT PLAYING WITH OTHER MUSICIANS??? AGAIN, WE SHOULD BE USING OUR EARS TO CONNECT WITH OTHER MUSICIANS. ITS ABOUT SOUND. MELODY, HARMONY, RHYTHM……….. THE REST IS INSIDE OF YOU……… IF YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS? THEN YOU ARE NOT A BORN MUSICIAN, AND ITS OK! YOU CAN STILL LEARN THE WRITTEN LANGUAGE OF MUSIC AND PLAY OTHER PEOPLES MUSIC.. BUT THAT IS DIFFERENT THAN BEING A NATURAL BORN MUSICIAN… AND THAT WILL ALSO MEAN THAT YOU NEED TO FIND WHAT YOUR NATURAL GIFTS ARE! WE ARE ALL BORN WITH NATURAL GIFTS WITHIN US! BUT how do we find that??? we have to look INSIDE OF OURSELVES! NOT OUTSIDE!

D. Sandell says:

Sitting in my favorite chair drinking Crown Royal on the Rocks listening to Nick Johnston …thank you Canada

Kevin Worley says:

Reminds me of Robert Plant in the beard days ha

Hugh Caldwell says:

Nick is the most original sounding guitar player i have heard in 30 years. His music is so harmonically rich and he never overplays.

Daniel Verberne says:

Nick talking about his process of learning some of the fundamentals, it's great to hear. I still remember my joy at discovering I could play exotic-sounding stuff by playing a Phyrgian Dominant mode over a drone E or something and using octave chords to that effect – it was liberating, exciting. My musical knowledge was severely cut short compared to what I could have done, but I admire those like Nick who have taken it much further.

GoggleKack says:

Is it just me, or has the volume on youtube vids gone down? especially on ones with music.

Devin Axtman says:

Nick Johnston…I like that Zappa meets Govan face.

SunnySalamander says:
